When the sun is shining, there's cocktails to drink with friends and holiday destinations to fly off to, the last thing you want to do is spend hours in front of the mirror in the morning. You need a simple selection of products and multi-tasking marvels to give you a fresh, healthy glow. When thinking of versatile products that can be used in a multitude of ways, Stila's Covertible Colors spring to mind first. Winning award after award and hailed by beauty buffs as a total, cult classic, these creamy compacts are a summer must-have.
Marketed as a 2-in-1 product, Stila claim that these little compacts can be used on both the cheeks and lips. Usually, when other products have a similar idea behind them, they only work well as a blush. Take the YSL Babydoll Kiss & Blushes, for example. But, Stila Convertible Colors are the exception, in my opinion.
Smoothed on to the lips, the finish is semi-matte. Not as sheer as a tinted balm, but not as opaque as a full-on lipstick, the Convertible Colors give a semi-matte wash of colour. Providing my lips aren't dry in the slightest, the colour looks smooth, gives the appearance of a plumper pout and can last for a decent, four hours (depending on how much eating and drinking you do). Ensuring you tap on a little balm before application, they don't dry out the lips or start to exaggerate the look of any fine lines. There's nothing ground-breaking to mention, but they're nice when you want a match-matchy look for your lips and cheeks, or for when you want to carry minimal products in your makeup bag. I know a lot of people don't rate them as a lip product, but they work really well for me.
Of course, the main use for them is as a cream blush. Unlike many, which tend to dry down to a powder finish, Stila's cream colours leave a glossy, dewy sheen on the skin. Texture-wise, they feel thick, creamy and super smooth, without any stickiness or greasiness. Despite the rich consistency, they don't feel heavy on the cheek and I've never had any blemish break-outs when using them. I always apply them over my foundation and they never disrupt the makeup underneath, like other liquid and cream products sometimes do. What's so impressive about these blushes, is that they're so long-lasting for a dewy, cream formula. I always reach for them on special occasions, when I need my makeup to last all day and I won't have much time for touch-ups.

For anyone with normal to dry/dehydrated skin that struggles to get a glow, these blushes are perfect. They add such a healthy radiance to the skin and that lustre continues to gleam all day long. As they do create such a sheen, those with an oily skin may find them too shiny, so I'd recommend the Bourjois Little Round Pot Cream Blushes instead, as they have a cream-to-powder formula, but still brighten the complexion.
My favourite way to apply the Convertible Colors, is with a stippling brush, picking up a small amount of product and then gently dabbing the it on to the skin. Then, I softly pat over the edges with my fingers, so that the natural warmth helps to melt the colour and blend it seamlessly. For a stronger look, I'll repeat the process until I'm happy.
Although the trio in my collection are all fairly neutral and inoffensive, there are a couple of shades in the line which are bold and could look intimidating to anyone that isn't confident with applying blush. Fortunately, though, the pigmentation has a translucence to it and they are surprisingly sheer when blended out. They almost give the skin a glazed finish with a light application. But, if you prefer a stronger finish, then you can easily layer the product to build the intensity.

Stila Convertible Color Swatches L-R: Gerbera, Peony & Camellia |
The whole range of 14 shades are gorgeous and really wearable, from pretty peaches and soft nudes to brighter pinks and deeper berry tones. I have three, but I'm desperate to add more to my stash. Gerbera, my favourite of the shades I own, is a bright, peachy tone that immediately lifts the complexion. Peony is a dusky rose shade, with a brown undertone to it. This is such a wearable colour and almost acts as a blush and bronzer, in one, as it adds warmth to the skin. Camellia is an even deeper, warm, browny tone. It's very neutral and looks great with a statement eye or lip, when you want to keep the cheeks subtle. Similar to Peony, it adds even more of a bronzed glow to the skin and can act as a natural-looking, contouring product, to add definition and shade to the face.
As always, Stila's packaging is so cute and sleek, with the floral embossing and colour-coded compacts. They're slim, lightweight and have a mirror in the lid, making them perfect for travelling with or keeping in your bag for top-ups. At £16 each, these double duty compacts aren't cheap, but I use them so much that they're totally worth it in my eyes. If you haven't got any already, I definitely recommend picking one up, at least!
Have you tried the Stila Convertible Colors? Which is your favourite shade?

It's such a pretty, peach shade that's so perfect for S/S :) Let me know how you get on with them, if you pick any up! x
DeleteI rarely use cream blushes for some reason but always like the idea of them. I'd actually love to try more from Stila as a brand so these look perfect. Gerbera & Peony are such stunning shades x

I was always wary of using cream blushes, as I presumed they wouldn't last very long on the skin, or would make me look too shiny. But, I actually much prefer the finish they give now that I use them more often. Stila's are probably my favourite formula, though! x
DeleteI ADORE the Convertible Colours. Peony and Gerbera are my faves x
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever heard a bad review of them, to be honest! The perfect cream blushes, in my opinion! x
DeleteHow cool is their packaging? I would probably buy these babies for the packaging only haha, I've done this before cause I loooooove a pink and metallic packaging on a product!

I must admit, I'm a sucker for pretty packaging, too! It's just a bonus that the formula of the Convertible Colors is so impressive and the shades are so pretty, really! x
DeleteI love the look of Peony! I'm not sure these would be suited to my oily skin though, they do look very dewy!

They do have quite a glossy finish, so you may be better with a cream to powder formula that may last longer on the skin, instead :) x
DeleteThese still covertible colors look STUNNING! I need them in my life, i love how the shades look wearable.

Aren't they just? They do have some brighter shades in the range, but I much prefer the subtler, more natural colours! x
DeleteI love cream blushes for Summer- they last a lot longer than powder blushes! The Stila ones look amazing:)

Me too! I just much prefer the finish in direct sunlight, as creams are so much more flattering! x
