Bourjois Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipsticks Review + Swatches

Bourjois Colour Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick Review Swatches

So, it seems that we aren't going to be seeing the back of chubby stick-esque lip crayons, any time soon. Bourjois are the latest brand to have a pop at producing their take on the wind-up lipstick/gloss trend with the Bourjois Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipsticks. But, how do they match up to the rest on the market?

These lip colours have a sheer, balmy formula that glides onto the lips. Perfect for Summer, they feel light and hydrating, but not especially buttery or creamy. As Bourjois claim, you wouldn't know that you were wearing anything other than a light lip balm. Whilst they aren't at all drying, they don't condition your lips during wear or feel nourishing, compared to the likes of the Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks. Although they create a gorgeous, glossy sheen, they're totally non sticky, so your hair won't get stuck to your lips if it's windy. After an hour or so, the glossiness does wane, leaving an evenly stained finish and a balmy residue behind. The stains are pretty long-lasting, too, so you don't need to worry that the colour has gone patchy or need to re-apply every minute.

Good levels of pigmentation mean that you can build up the colour to suit your taste, either giving you a hint of a hue or a much stronger look. All of the shades are shimmer-free, leaving a creamy, wet-look finish. The lipstick doesn't cling to any dry patches, making lips look plump and healthy. I have noticed that the initial application can be a tad patchy and the lighter shades can sink into any dehydration lines more than the others, but you just need to work with it and build the product up in layers.

These chubby-stick wannabes are a great option for those who want to play around with statement shades on their lips, but don't want to wear a full-on, heavy lipstick. They have a tangy, sour, fruity fragrance to them which I love, as it's the type that makes your mouth water. A bonus of SPF 15 helps to protect lips from the sun and those harmful rays, which is a really nice addition to the formula, too.

The packaging can't differ too much when it comes to lip crayons, but Bourjois have kept them simple and bright, which is always nice for Summer. The pointed tip of the lipsticks allow you to follow the contours of the lip line easily, creating a perfect pout. But, they soon wear down and become more blunted, making it more difficult to get an accurate application. To avoid flattening out the nib too much, I try and apply the colour from the side of the bullet, rather than the point.

In total, there are ten shades in the line, of which I currently have three. My intentions are to purchase a few more from the range next time I visit Boots, but I can envisage myself buying the entire collection after falling in love with this trio over the last, few weeks!

01 Red Sunshine
is a
bright, raspberry red shade. It's seriously stunning, but it isn't for the faint-hearted or for anyone that doesn't feel comfortable sporting in-your-face lip colours. Personally, I love wearing it full on, but you can easily blot the colour to create more of a stain, if you want to turn it down a notch. Be warned, this colour does start to stain the lips in seconds and it is quite vivid, but that's great in terms of longevity!

02 Fuchsia Libre
is a
cool-toned, pink-purple fuchsia shade. Although I'd still consider it a bright shade, it's nowhere near as neon as the other two shades I picked up. Out of the three, this is probably my least worn shade, but that's just down to my preference of warmer tones, which I feel compliment my complexion better.

03 Orange Punch
is a
juicy, orange-coral shade that I've fallen head over heel in love with. The sheerest of my trio, the colour is much less opaque with this shade, even after applying a few coats. It's such a pretty colour for S/S and I always get a tonne of compliments when wearing it.

At £7.99 each, these lip crayons aren't cheap as chips, but they make a nice alternative to the Clinique Chubby Sticks, which are over double the price at £17.50. And, if you watch out for the Boots offer, you can usually pick up Bourjois makeup when there's a 3-for-2 offer on, making them even more affordable.
