L'Oreal La Palette Nude Rose & Beige Review + Swatches

Although L'Oreal released their take on the perfect, eyeshadow palette last year, I restrained myself and gave it a miss. Full of pink and purple tones, I just couldn't warrant adding a palette I may not use often enough to my already overflowing, makeup drawers. Then recently, a brown-toned version hit the shelves and I decided to add them both to my collection. I just can't help myself!

Let's face it, high-end brands dominate the neutral, eyeshadow palette market. Urban Decay hit the nail on the head with their Naked Palettes and since their debut, other brands have followed suit and created a surge of suspiciously similar copy-cats. But, aside from the more recent Makeup Revolution launches, there's been a severe lack of neutral palettes coming from drugstore brands. Fortunately, L'Oreal never let me down and have, once again, come to the rescue with their L'Oreal Color Riche La Palette Nude range.

The original, Rose palette contains four matte shadows and six shimmery shades. The left half is made up of warm, peachy-pinks and the right consists of darker, cooler-toned purples. I'm not one for wearing crazy, neon colours, but I do love wearing a pop of plum or a little lavender to accentuate my brown eyes, from time to time. Although the colours could appear rather strong and slightly daunting to anyone who isn't particularly au fait with makeup, the shades are a lot more wearable than they look in the pan.

Being a neutral lover who likes to play it safe when it comes to eyeshadow (a bold lip is more my style), Beige is the palette I reach for most, of the two. I'd say that it has more of a bronze or brown theme to it, rather than being beige, but I'm glad that the colours aren't quite as muted as the name suggests. This one has an equal number of matte and shimmery shades, again with a mix of warmer and cooler tones.

Soft and smooth, the formulation of the eyeshadows is impressive and the majority have a velvety texture. When swirling your brush into them, you do kick-up some dusty excess, but as the shadows feel so creamy, it's a bearable compromise. Often, cheaper palettes contain an abundance of shimmery shadows, but the mattes are few and far between, so it's refreshing to see so many flat, sparkle-free shades within these compacts. Surprisingly, for a drugstore product, they're strongly pigmented and aren't at all chalky.

Whilst most of the shades are a hit, a couple have missed the mark. Unfortunately, a few of the paler, shimmery shades leave a lot to be desired. Barely giving any colour-payoff at all, they're poor on the pigment front and basically blend into nothing. Fortunately, the rest are well pigmented and, if I build up the colour and layer between blending, then they go the distance longevity wise. To get the most out of these shadows, I'd recommend using a primer to give the colour something extra to adhere to.

More compact than other palettes, L'Oreal's La Palette Nude Eyeshadow Palettes are super slim and light and, with a generously-sized mirror within the lid, they're ideal for travel. At £14.99 each, these palettes are quite high on the drugstore, pricing scale. But, considering that Urban Decay's cult-favourites are £38, they're a absolute steal.

  2. Gorgeous swatches! I am more drawn to the beige one, but I feel the first one would be the better buy for me since I have so many brown/bronze shadows :p I'm patiently waiting for these to show up where I live - bracing myself for the price though given one L'Oreal mascara is $28 here!

  3. I have the rose version and I really like it, the shades will be perfect for upcoming summer and I love the sleek packaging. In terms of formula I don't think they are amazing compared to the likes of UD but then again these are half the price of the Naked palettes x
