Golden tones, fresh skin and coral hues are what I love most in a makeup menu, so I'm sure it comes as no surprise that this has been my go-to look since the sun started shining. But, to mix things up a little, I've been wearing a gold, liquid liner along my bottom lash-line. A great way to wear some colour on the eyes, it's simple, but effective. You could swap the gold shade for any colour you like, to suit your taste and to challenge yourself to experiment and move out of your comfort zone.
To prevent makeup meltdown in the heat, I've been reaching for the Bourjois Happy Light Luminous Primer, which has brightening properties to combat signs of fatigue. Slapping on layers of heavy, suffocating foundation is not an option during Summer, but unfortunately my skin isn't flawless enough to skip a base altogether. So, to gently even out my complexion, whilst keeping my skin looking natural, I've been loving the Dr Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm. Enhancing the skin, rather than hiding it, the creamy, hydrating formula provides a decent level of coverage, high SPF and a dewy glow. Benefit's Erase Paste Brightening Concealer is a blast from the past, for me and after recently rediscovering it, it hasn't left my makeup bag. Although the texture is thick and almost sticky, it does an amazing job of brightening under-eye shadows and camouflaging imperfections.
Instead of contouring, I've been adding some colour to my face with bronzer wherever the sun would naturally hit, instead. Keeping with the radiant theme, I've much preferred using a cream product and Chanel's Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Base is ideal. To subtly highlight, I like to sweep on some of the Soap & Glory Glow All Out Highlighter on the high-points of the face, as it isn't too harsh or glittery for the daytime. If my T-zone starts looking a bit greasy instead of glowing, then I'll dust on some of the Sleek Luminous Pressed Powder, which tones down unflattering shine, but never gives a flat, dull finish. As a finishing touch for the face, I like to spritz with some of the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, to seal everything in place and to keep the base looking fresh.
With this makeup look, the star of the show has to be the Bourjois Liner Pinceau Gold swept along the bottom lash-line of the eyes. Easy to apply, the fine, precision applicator allows the grit-free formula to glide on in seconds and, with 16hr wear, the colour lasts all day and night. More of a champagne gold, rather than a yellow or copper tone, it just adds a touch of extra light to the eyes. To make the gold eyeliner the focal point of the makeup look, I've been keeping the lids simple, using MAC Eyeshadows in Shroom on the inner corner and All That Glitters on the rest. For softly defining the socket without creating a cut-crease, Omega is the best, as it's matte and creates a natural-looking shadow. Pressing some Brun along the top lash-line adds even more depth and helps to make the lashes look thicker, too.
For my brows, I always use an angled brush with a mixture of MAC Omega and Brun Eyeshadows, to gently patch-up any sparse areas and give a softer shape. To tame any unruly hairs and set them in place, Rimmel's Brow This Way Brow Gel is my product of choice, as it's tinted and contains fibres to make brows appear fuller. Curling my eyelashes is a standard procedure in my morning routine, as it makes such a difference to how awake I look and I haven't found any better than my holy-grail Kevyn Aucoin The Eyelash Curler. As always, I'm slicking on as much of my current, favourite mascara, Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara, as my peepers can take. Giving incredible length, volume and curl, this mascara does it all and for such an affordable price. Finally, for a hint of colour and a moisturising feel, I've reverted back to using my beloved Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters. During the day, I want something easy to wear, with a glossy finish and Juicy Papaya is the perfect, peachy shade.
What is your favourite, makeup look for summer?
