New Year's Eve Glam Party Makeup Look

New Year's Eve is the night I like to go all-out with my makeup. I'm talking all the sparkle. This year, I'm heading to party so have the perfect excuse to get all dressed up, but to be honest, I'd do the same even if I was planning on just cosying up in front of a film with a bag of pic n' mix. This year, I've put together a look featuring glittery, golden eyes, glowing skin and a classic, red lip.

Starting with primer, one of my favourites during winter is Illamasqua's Hydra Veil. The solid, jelly texture melts on contact with the skin, working to hydrate the skin and create a smooth surface ready for foundation. When cameras are guaranteed to make an appearance, I always reach for Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Providing a medium, build-able coverage, this will create a flattering finish and, as it's free from SPF, there's no risk of ghost-face in flash photographs. Although the formula is oil-free and very long-lasting, it still gives the complexion a glow that looks healthy, not greasy. For concealer, I always choose my trusty Nars Creamy Concealer which masks a multitude of sins and brightens the skin, without any cakiness. Under the eyes, I also patted on a little of the Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Peach to counteract any blue-toned shadows. A light dusting of Revlon Colorstay Pressed Powder sets all that base in place for hours, but I concentrate on applying it through the t-zone and avoiding the cheeks, to keep things as glowy as possible.

To add some shape to the face, I like to contour with Kevyn Aucoin's Sculpting Powder. The ashy tone suits my paler complexion at this time of year and creates a natural looking shadow. Over the top of that, I'll sweep on a bit of Nars Laguna Bronzer to warm everything up a bit and give myself some extra colour. So that I don't resemble a disco-ball with too much shimmer on my cheeks and eyes, I've chosen a subtle highlighter in the form of Benefit Watt's Up. Rather than being chock-a-block with chunky glitter, this has more of a pearly sheen to it and the cream formula blends seamlessly. Whenever I wear a red lip, I like to keep my blush quite minimal and natural-looking. As it's a neutral shade, I've decided to plump for the Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Copper, which adds a hint of warmth that complements the rest of the makeup, but won't draw attention away from the eyes and lips.

So that my brows don't look too strong, I've just softly filled them in and generously brushed them through with my Hourglass Arch Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette. Instead of having a pointed nib, it has a slanted tip so you can't be too precise with it, allowing for a less harsh, drawn-on result. To soften the brows further and stop any hairs from straying out of place, I finished my brows with a slick of No7 Lash & Brow Perfector. I'm all about the golden tones for eyes during the festive season, as they pair so well with red. Layering a few different eyeshadow shades and formulas really helps to boost the intensity of the pigments and prevents the colour from fading after a few hours. To start with, I applied some of the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Copper, before blending some of the Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Mirage over the top. To finish, I buffed on some of Bobbi Brown's Gold Sparkle Eyeshadow for extra glitter, to create a sparkly, multi-dimensional look.

To define the eyes, I used the Bourjois Liner Pinceau along the top lash-line and then smudged some of Nars' Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Via Appia through the waterlines and underneath the eyes slightly. As I decided to skip falsies, I curled my lashes with my beloved Kevyn Aucoin pair, before slicking on a few coats of the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara, which is amazing for volume.

For my red lip, I used the No7 Precision Lips Pencil in Fire along the lip line, before filling in the rest with Loreal's Color Riche Exclusive Reds Lipstick in Liya's Red. Having a matte finish, it will hold up well when eating, drinking and smooching your chosen partner at midnight. Plus, the formula isn't too drying making it more comfortable to wear, but it may need the odd touch-up throughout the night.

What makeup look will you be going for, this year?

  3. Fab post hun, I really want to try the Armani foundation as I’ve heard so many good things. The Nars Creamy Concealer is a big favourite of mine and I agree it hides any blemishes without looking cakey! :)
