We may be experiencing the height of summer, but I have a confession to make. Last night, I put the heating on. Although the sun has been making an appearance every now and again, and the weather has verged on tropical for us in the UK, I've been feeling cold whenever it's been cloudy or miserable. As soon as September is in our sights, I immediately think of autumn, hence my eagerness to share the key pieces I'm lusting after for my summer to autumn, transitional wardrobe. Here are the picks that I have my eye on, at the moment.
My first thought when it comes to autumn, is knitwear and my first thought when it comes to knitwear, is All Saints. I'm always drawn to their quirky designs, which often incorporate interesting details that make their pieces stand out. During transitional seasons, I prefer to wear finer knits that are more fitted and reserve oversized, chunkier items for winter. This All Saints Keld Crew Neck Jumper is so perfect, with the asymmetric hem and ribbed material. Made from merino wool, it'll be super soft and the almond pink shade keeps it nice and light for when the sun is still shining.
OK, I'm still not over the choker trend that is currently taking the blogging world by storm, but I am starting to get bored of the plain, black bands in my collection. To mix things up a bit, I want to pick up a few more in different shades and textures, starting with this Topshop Thin Velvet Choker. The raspberry colour would look great with a white tee and denim, and the velvet finish will be ideal for taking through to A/W.
When I'm feeling fit after a hard week of workout sessions and want to give myself a bit of a confidence boost, I turn to bodysuits. They're flattering, so versatile and make any outfit that bit sexier, whether paired with skirts, jeans or trousers. Although the For Love & Lemons Josephina Bodysuit is on the pricey side for this kind of top, it's the most beautiful body I think I've ever seen. I love the bow detail and sweetheart neckline and think it would look amazing for date nights or evenings out. It's also important to find one that is high quality, so it won't stretch, go baggy or lose its shape after one wear.
Another trend that I'm still in love with, is the bardot, off-the-shoulder styles. Blue seems to be the popular choice of colour for these tops, but whilst they look amazing on blondes, they don't look as great with my dark hair. Instead, I've been loving them in neutrals, or bright, warm tones, like this Topshop Petite Structured Bardot Top. As this design is more structured, it sits quite flat at the front and back, rather than flaring out too much like some of them can do. I'm totally in love with the orangey-red shade that I feel suits my hair colour so much more, too.
I've actually spotted my next pick IRL already and hunted it down especially for this wish-list, with the intention of buying it when I'm next in-store. The Topshop Petite Floral Tea Dress is so sweet and would not only look beautiful with bare legs in summer, but would look equally as nice with black tights during A/W. I have a feeling this dress is very popular, though, thanks to Tanya Burr wearing it recently.
Backpacks make life so easy. When you're out and about, you don't want to carry a heavy bag on your shoulder or in the crook of your arm, especially if it's hot. The most chic backpack I've found, is the Whistles Croc Mini Verity Backpack which is dreamy, thanks to the compact size and mix of croc leather and gold hardware. Although it's a mini version of their original design, you'll be able to fit much more in there than you think, as it has that fold-over top.
Although I might be starting to layer up my clothes, I'm still happy to wear heeled sandals when I want to look a bit more glam and less casual. These Jones Bootmaker Jinx Heeled Sandals are just gorgeous, with a heel high enough to make you feel extra confident, but not so high that they're uncomfortable or difficult to walk in. Let's face it, black shoes are such a staple in any wardrobe and go with everything, but the tassel detail of this pair gives them a bit more edge. Perfect for day or night, S/S or A/W, you're guaranteed to get so much wear out of them.
Suede clothing is something I've invested in a lot over the last year. I just love the variation in texture it adds to a look. This Bardot Pebble Suede Mini Skirt is so simple, but so chic. As it has subtle, indented lines across the waistline and down the skirt, they'll really help to accentuate the waist and curves, without being too obvious. The neutral, nude shade is gorgeous and I think it would pair beautifully with a t-shirt and converse for a laid-back vibe, or a blouse, structured jacket and heels for something more sophisticated.
I'm really desperate to find the perfect grey, denim shirt, but I think I might've discovered 'the one', with this Zara Denim Shirt. Often shirt styles can either be too oversized that they look frumpy, or so fitted that they look too tight, but this one sits perfectly in-between. I can't wait to wear it loose and unbuttoned over a long, basic, cami dress, with a waisted belt, in summer and tucked in to jeans with boots, in A/W.
What's on your current wish-list?
